The history of cartography traces the development of cartography , or mapmaking technology, in human history. Maps have been one of the most important human inventions for millennia, allowing humans to explain and navigate their way through the world. The earliest archaeological maps include cave paintings , to ancient maps of Babylon , Greece , China , and India. In their most simple form maps are two dimensional constructs, however since the age of Classical Greece maps have also been projected onto a three-dimensional sphere known as a globe. In the 21st century, with the onset of the Information Age and the subsequent increase in computing power, maps can now be digitized in numerical form, transmitted and updated via satellite GPS. Maps, or depictions that can be identified as geographical representations, have been found across ancient and Bronze Age cultures, with many of these early maps being simple structures that were likely more intended to be used as religious or symbolic tools rather than practical ones.

As a study in the effects of sexual assault, it is astonishing — but it would also be an injustice to categorise it as a one-issue drama. Rather it explores the intersections of race, class and gender in Western metropolitan society with both freewheeling energy and breathtaking assurance, while also, more generally, nailing the vertigo-inducing experience of being a young adult with exhilarating authenticity. For the many of us who have been stuck in emotional rumination during lockdown, this romantic drama has provided the perfect televisual accompaniment.

The crowd is mostly dressed in business attire, but Auteri is wearing medieval-style armor: a shirt of steel-link mail, a mail coif on his head, plate armor on his shoulders and white linen robes emblazoned with a red cross. The outfit weighs 65 pounds and can cause problems for airline baggage handlers.
His sword, modeled on one from the Ridley Scott movie Kingdom of Heaven, is not battle sharp, but it cuts sponge cake easily enough. Members of the charitable organization, known by the unwieldy abbreviation SMOTJ, regard themselves as spiritual descendants of the original Templars. No matter. The original Knights Templar—shorthand for the Order of the Poor Knights of the Temple of Jerusalem—were founded to protect Christian pilgrims on the roads of Palestine following the First Crusade; the group was named for its original headquarters on the Temple Mount. Comedy , type of drama or other art form the chief object of which, according to modern notions, is to amuse. It is contrasted on the one hand with tragedy and on the other with farce , burlesque , and other forms of humorous amusement. The classic conception of comedy, which began with Aristotle in ancient Greece of the 4th century bce and persists through the present, holds that it is primarily concerned with humans as social beings, rather than as private persons, and that its function is frankly corrective.
Here comedy is considered primarily as a literary genre. The wellsprings of comedy are dealt with in the article humour. The comic impulse in the visual arts is discussed in the articles caricature and cartoon and comic strip. The origins of comedy are thus bound up with vegetation ritual. Aristotle , in his Poetics , states that comedy originated in phallic songs and that, like tragedy , it began in improvisation. Though tragedy evolved by stages that can be traced, the progress of comedy passed unnoticed because it was not taken seriously.
When tragedy and comedy arose, poets wrote one or the other, according to their natural bent. Those of the graver sort, who might previously have been inclined to celebrate the actions of the great in epic poetry , turned to tragedy; poets of a lower type, who had set forth the doings of the ignoble in invectives, turned to comedy. The distinction is basic to the Aristotelian differentiation between tragedy and comedy: tragedy imitates men who are better than the average and comedy men who are worse.

Spry, light on its feet and visually inventive, it tells the story of the month-or-so romance between Tom Joseph Gordon-Levitt and the titular Summer Zooey Deschanel , in a clever non-chronological structure. The pair have chemistry in absolute spades, and the conclusion, when it comes, is both unexpected and a satisfyingly real gut-punch. But it feels so gorgeously wrought and performed, so warm and genuine and swoon-inducing, that it ends up feeling like something utterly universal.
